Program Faculty must have a minimum of Bachelor's degree in Healthcare, Education or related field and a minimum of 3 years of experience as an instructor in the healthcare field and or Adult Education. Three years of experience as a Medial Assistant or in a directly related field or experience working as a Medical Assistant Instructor for more than one year will be considered in-lieu of a Bachelor's Degree. Licensure or certification in related field such as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), registered Medical assistant (RMA) or Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) is required.
The Clinical Medical Assistant (CMA) Program at Jeremi College is a comprehensive 16-week training program designed to prepare students to become competent, compassionate, and career-ready allied health professionals. This program provides comprehensive training in both administrative and clinical procedures performed in physicians’ offices, clinics, and hospitals. Students gain hands-on experience in vital skills such as recording medical histories and vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), administering medications, collecting and processing laboratory specimens, and maintaining a safe and sterile clinical environment. Instruction also includes medical terminology, infection control, patient communication, and electronic health records management. The program incorporates BIO101: Anatomy and Physiology for Health Professions, a foundational course that introduces students to the structure and function of the human body, emphasizing how body systems interrelate to support health and homeostasis. Completion of BIO101 with a grade of “B” or higher satisfies the Anatomy & Physiology I with Lab requirement for Jeremi College’s proposed Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program. This course serves as a transferable academic bridge, allowing CMA students to advance their education within Jeremi College’s healthcare pathway while fulfilling all additional nursing program prerequisites and entrance exam requirements.
The program includes 300 total clock hours, consisting of 180 hours of classroom and laboratory instruction and a 120-hour externship in an approved clinical site. Instruction is based on Pearson’s Comprehensive Medical Assisting, 5th Edition and Martini, Nath, & Bartholomew’s Fundamentals of Anatomy & Physiology, 12th Edition. The program also includes focused certification exam preparation to ensure students are ready to successfully pass the NHA CCMA exam and begin their healthcare careers with confidence Upon successful completion, graduates will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam,
Students who are 1 term semester away from obtaining their HSE or are in the Indiana HSE accelerated program are admitted without the HSE and take classes concurrently with their HSE classes but are unable to sit for the National certification until they obtain the HSE.
