A qualified faculty member teaching EMT course PARM 102 and 105 meets the course standard through one of two routes: 1. Meets the Paramedic Science program standard, or 2. Holds both of the following certifications: ? a current EMT or higher certification and ? a current Indiana Department of Homeland Security Primary Instructor certification.
A program that prepares individuals, under the remote supervision of physicians, to recognize, assess, and manage medical emergencies in prehospital settings and to supervise Ambulance personnel. Includes instruction in basic, intermediate, and advanced EMT procedures; emergency surgical procedures; medical triage; rescue operations; crisis scene management and personnel supervision; equipment operation and maintenance; patient stabilization, monitoring, and care; drug administration; identification and preliminary diagnosis of diseases and injuries; communication and computer operations; basic anatomy, physiology, pathology, and toxicology; and professional standards and regulations.
This course covers basic Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) skills necessary for emergency care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized service. Intravenous maintenance, non-visualized airway, automatic defibrillation, NLAST therapy, advanced emergency care and limited pharmacology are presented. Emphasis is on forming the student's ability to perform the skills appropriately to function as an EMT-B. Upon successful completion of the course and certification examination by the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, the student can function as an Emergency Medical Technician. 144 total didactic hours, 16 ED observation, and 16 hours ambulance observation are required. Prerequisite: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitations (CPR). This program can also be applied toward obtaining an Associate Degree in Paramedic Science. MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: 1. Identify and describe the roles and responsibilities of the EMT-Basic.2. Identify and define the EMT-Basic scope of practice.3. Identify the components of Anatomy amp; Physiology of the Human Body as it applies to the EMT-B scope of practice.4. Identify the components of a patient assessment on both trauma and medical patients.5. List all phases of an ambulance response.
