Description

Our diverse team of instructors are subject matter experts in the IT space and possess the relevant certifications and industry experience to successfully deliver their courses. Our trainers possess at minimum the certifications that are delivered in class and are also required to learn all necessary contextualized information, including specifics about the funding partner’s requirements. Instructors are briefed on partner program metrics such as reporting requirements, completion rates, credentialing rates, measurable skill gains, employments outcomes, etc. to ensure a high likelihood that program goals are attained. We seek instructors and team members that reflect the diversity and background of the students served. In some cases, team members are former graduates who inspire students as someone who has lived in their shoes or came from their specific community.

Throughout a 12-week instructor-led, live virtual training curriculum, students will obtain contextualized, in-demand IT support skills and connect with hiring partners to start their career in Technical Help Desk, IT Support, and related technology roles. Successful students will earn the CompTIA IT Fundamentals and CompTIA A+ certifications, learn modern business communication, and creative job search skills. Students meet each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:30a-4:30p ET and participate in engaging, live virtual training sessions with an instructor and their peers. The remainder of the week is reserved for one-on-one tutoring and mindset coaching, study groups, self-paced interactive learning, practice exams, and more. Students will take the certification exams during the program and may be eligible for exam retakes should they need an additional attempt. More than 20 partner technology organizations actively source graduates for relevant IT support and technical help desk roles. The TechWorks employer partner network consists of some of the largest IT staffing and consulting companies in the US, including TEKSystems, Robert Half International, and Insight Global. After the program, students may continue to receive on-going, relevant job leads for open IT positions.

TechWorks relies on an intentional student curriculum and end-user experience that prepares students for two industry certifications: CompTIA IT Fundamentals and CompTIA A+. Additionally, modern business communication, job search strategies, and IT career exploration content is integrated throughout the curriculum. Successful students may even qualify for up to 21 credits with a partner educational institution, such as Indiana Tech University

The CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification covers six core competencies that lay the foundation for more complex concepts found later in the curriculum:

  • IT Concepts & Terminology
  • Infrastructure
  • Applications & Software
  • Software Development
  • Database Fundamentals
  • Security

The CompTIA A+ certification is comprised of two exams and covers nine core competencies that are important to the daily work of many Computer User Support Specialists. Students will also use the Virtual PC Builder to complete hands-on, simulated hardware assembly activities to reinforce the skills learned in the virtual classroom.

  • Mobile Devices
  • Networking
  • Hardware
  • Virtualization & Cloud Computing
  • Hardware & Network Troubleshooting
  • Operating Systems
  • Security
  • Software Troubleshooting
  • Operational Procedures

The IT Fundamentals and A+ follow the CompTIA Certification Roadmap and are stackable credentials that reinforce the knowledge that is required to secure a level 1 or 2 technical support, help desk, remote technician, and other related positions. CompTIA is the global industry-standard for vendor neutral technology certifications. The certification exams consist of multiple-choice and performance-based questions. They are proctored by a third-party vendor and delivered online or in-person at an authorized testing center.
