Description

All program faculty, at minimum, must have a Bachelors degree and are certified Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS) from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP). The majority of faculty members also hold a Master’s degree.

A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of clinical laboratory scientists/medical technologists, to perform routine medical laboratory procedures and tests and to apply preset strategies to record and analyze data. Includes instruction in general laboratory procedures and skills; laboratory mathematics; medical computer applications; interpersonal and communications skills; and the basic principles of hematology, medical microbiology, immunohematology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis. The University of Saint Francis Medical Laboratory Technician Program is a 2 year associate of science degree program. The total length of the program is 24 months with full-time enrollment and requires 60 total credit hours. The students begin enrolled as Pre-MLT (PMLT) major to begin general education and basic science classes. The students must then progress into the clinical year, which we define as the MLT program, and complete both clinical didactic classes and clinical rotations at a laboratory facility.

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Interested applications can apply to the University and high school diploma, or equivalent is required. USF will admit applicants to the PMLT (Pre-MLT) major and they will work on pre-requisite classes at USF including Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, English, Math, Psychology, and Franciscan Tradition. Once those classes are successfully completed, the student will progress into the MLT major including clinical classes and rotations.

Application for the MLT program are rolling. We admit students in Fall, Spring and Summer Semester.
