Pharmacy technicians assist pharmacists to dispense prescription medications to customers and/or healthcare professionals. Pharmacy technicians work under the supervision of pharmacists who must review prescriptions before they are given to patients. Pharmacy technicians working in hospitals and other medical facilities prepare a greater variety of medications, such as intravenous medications. They may make rounds in the hospital, giving medications to patients. Pharmacy technicians need the ability to be precise, have good communication skills, and be able to follow instructions competently. They spend many hours working on their feet and with their hands. Work settings typically include retail pharmacies and hospitals.
