Description

Instructors are certified in the field with aminimum of 5 years industry experience. Instructors must hold a valid RNlicensein addition to having their CPTcredential. ABE instructors are required to have a minimum of a B.S. in Education with teaching experience preferred.

Students will receive classroom and hands-on training to learn to perform various phlebotomy techniques. Successful completion of this course will ensure quality care for patients, and allow students the opportunity to obtain a Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT) through the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The course includes48 hours of face-to-face classroom instruction, test preparation and career readiness with 12 hours of adult basic education intermixed throughout. Students will receive hands-on instruction and practice various phlebotomy techniques with their classmates. Each student will be required to perform a minimum of thirty venipunctures and ten capillary sticks on live individuals before sitting for the written exam. Phlebotomy technicians are critical team members in hospitals, diagnostic laboratories and blood donor centers. As new types of tests are developed and laboratory tech positions grow, it's an especially exciting time to begin a career in this thriving field. Some tasks phlebotomy technicians may perform include: Drawing blood from patients and blood donors, evaluating patients' ability to withstand the procedure and helping them feel comfortable, explaining blood-drawing procedure to patients and answering questions, performing basic point-of-care testing, such as reading blood glucose levels, preparing blood, urine and other specimens for testing, maintaining medical equipment such as needles, test tubes and blood vials, etc.

11/12 TABE testing required. Must be at least 18 with a high schooldiploma or equivalent. WIN career readiness training modules must be completed and assessment passed with a score of at least 80%.
