To meet the minimum qualification for apprenticeship, applicants must:

  1. Complete an application form, accurately responding to all questions and items.
  2. Meet the minimum requirement of 17 at the time of application (must provide a copy of your Birth Certificate or Government Issued Photo ID)
  3. Be at least a high school graduate, or have a GED, or in lieu of a high school diploma; have a two (2) year Associates Degree or higher.
  4. Show evidence (Official High school Transcripts) of successful completion of: one full credit of high school algebra with a passing grade of C or better, or one post high school algebra course (e.g. Adult Education, Continuing Education, Community College, etc.) with a passing grade of C or better, or provide evidence of having successfully completed the NJATC Online Tech Math Course.   5. Submit a DD-214 to verify military training and/or experience if they are a veteran.
  6. At the time of application, there is $25.00 application fee
  7. Pass drug screening and background check.
  8. Must pass with a qualifying score of “4” or better using the electrical industry’s aptitude test developed and validated by the American Institutes for Research

Applicants who meet all basic requirements will be interviewed by the Apprenticeship committee. Apprentices will be selected in order of their final ranking.

The recruitment, selection, employment and training of apprentices during their apprenticeship, shall by without discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, or sex. The applicant must meet the minimum age requirement. The JATC does not and will not, discriminate against a qualified individual with a disability because of the disability of such individual. The sponsor will take affirmative action to provide equal opportunity in apprenticeship and will operate the apprenticeship program as required under applicable law and lawful regulation issued thereunder.

 

The SBJATC offers training in the following classifications:

 

Residential Wireman: Performs electrical work on houses, apartments, hotels, and small commercial projects. Residential is a 3 year apprenticeship program with wages starting at $14.60 per hour and journeyman wages at $23.95 per hour.

Installer Technician: Performs electrical work on systems such as fire alarm, building automation, networking, communications, fiber optic, and security systems. Installer Tech is a 4 year apprenticeship program with wages starting at $14.60 per hour and journeyman wages at $27.25 per hour.

Inside Wireman: Performs electrical work in commercial, industrial, manufacturing, agriculture, power generation, health care facilities and schools. Inside Wireman is a 5 year apprenticeship program with wages starting at $14.60 per hour and journeyman wages at $36.50 per hour.
