Description

Instructors possess a minimum of five (5) years of verifiable industry experience in welding or metal fabrication and maintain current American Welding Society (AWS) performance certifications or equivalent industry-recognized credentials. Instructors demonstrate competency in welding instruction, shop safety supervision, and hands-on technical training aligned with AWS welding code standards.

Faculty have documented occupational experience exceeding 6,000 hours in welding-related employment and are qualified to administer performance-based welding instruction in accordance with industry standards. Where applicable, instructors may also hold Indiana Career and Technical Education (CTE) licensure; however, workforce training is delivered under industry credential standards.

This 60-hour program prepares individuals for entry-level employment in manufacturing and fabrication using the Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW/MIG) process. Participants develop hands-on welding skills in carbon steel applications commonly used in structural and production environments. Instruction emphasizes safe equipment setup, welding technique development, blueprint interpretation, and performance-based skill assessment aligned with AWS D1.1 standards. Students who demonstrate readiness may attempt an AWS D1.1 2F Fillet Weld performance qualification upon completion.

There are no formal academic prerequisites for enrollment. Participants must be physically able to safely perform welding tasks in a shop environment and commit to full attendance due to the performance-based nature of the training.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Participants are enrolled into scheduled daytime or evening cohorts based on program availability. Enrollment is contingent upon completion of the application process and confirmation of space within an upcoming cohort.
