Course Credential Standard: Credentials other than the program/discipline standard that may appropriately qualify one to teach a specific course. Examples might include a licensure, certification, specialty coursework, etc. specific to the single course.Professional Certification: A certificate by an external state, regional, national, or international agency that attests to significant breadth and depth of knowledge within a field of study.

 

Meets the full-time faculty discipline standard; or
o Possesses a Department of Labor, Bureau for Apprenticeship Training recognized journeyman’s card in the discipline directly related to credentials, certifications, and competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and in journeyman status for two years or more with experience that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and
? Possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR); or
o Possesses any specialized certifications or credentials required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and
? 5 years directly related work experience in the field that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR); or
o Possesses a current Workplace Specialist License, Technology Education License (Technology and Engineering Education, Engineering and Technology Education), or CTE: Trade & Industrial Engineer or Manufacturing License granted by the Indiana Department of Education appropriate to course objectives and directly linked to credentials, certifications, and competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and
? Possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR).

Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, in cooperation with the State of Indiana's Boiler and Pressure Vessel Division, offers a special training course for persons interested in acquiring eligibility for securing certification from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors as an authorized inspector, owner-user inspector or jurisdictional competency recognition. The course aims to understand and design ASME code standards, inspection concepts, and preparation for the National Board Examination. Persons not possessing all of the requisite experience or who are not employed by a recognized inspection agency,when sitting for the exam,may attend the class and sit for the examination but may not anticipate receiving a commission until they gainthe required experience or have been employed by a recognized inspection agency. They must, however, be a high school graduate (or quivalent) and possess a working knowledge of algebra, particularly transposition of formulas and order of operations. Note: The cost for the In-Service Training includes the Authorized Inspector Commission (AI) exam through The National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors (NBBI) but does not include fees for commissions and endorsements, which may vary based upon individual experience.

PARTICIPANT’S QUALIFICATIONS

Each participant should demonstrate an aptitude for understanding the ASME Codes technical content and practical applications and the ability to solve mathematical problems as required by the industry. In order to qualify as a National Board Commissioned Inspector and sit for the National Board Exam, an applicant must have, as a minimum, a high school education (12 years or equivalent) and must meet the following criteria (5 points total)EDUCATION (1 CREDIT MINIMUM, 4 CREDITS MAXIMUM)Technical Training in Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspection (1 pt. maximum)

Examples include the following:

Continuing Education: Completion of a course in at least one (1) of the following (or related) subjects: quality systems, engineering, fabrication methods, nondestructive examination or inspection. The course(s) may be web based, a correspondence course or conducted in a classroom.

Code Courses: Completion of a course on knowledge, understanding and general structure of the National Board Inspection Code (NBIC) Part 1, 2 or 3 or other codes or related standards, such as the ASME Code or other international code of construction.

National Board Conducted Courses: Completion of course on basic inspection methods, data reports, welding or other related courses. Technical Curriculum 

Examples include the following: Graduation from an accredited technical school. Possession of Power Engineering Certificate. Completion of a military or merchant marine training course in the area of marine or stationary boilers or pressure vessels. and NB-263 – Inservice and New Construction, Revision 3 7. College/UniversityExamples include the following: Associate’s degree in science, mathematics or engineering. Bachelor’s degree in science or mathematics. Bachelor’s degree in engineering. EXPERIENCE (1 CREDIT MINIMUM, 4 CREDITS MAXIMUM) One (1) credit point may be assigned for each full year’s technical experience associated with boilers and pressure vessels in the categories below. Engineering or design review. Manufacturing, including fabrication methods or processes, in either shop or field. Responsibility for the operation of boiler(s) exceeding 50,000 lbs. of steam per hour total capacity. Responsibility for the performance of repairs, alterations or maintenance of boilers or pressure vessels. Involvement with quality control systems related to boiler or pressure vessel manufacturing, repair or alteration in either shop or field. Responsibility for inspection of boilers or pressure vessels either inservice or during construction, including either shop or field. Qualifications as an NDE examiner of boiler and pressure vessels meeting ASNT Level II or III (qualified by examination) or equivalent qualifications.
