10 years + Interpreter Experience in Health Care, Bachelors degree in a Healthcare Profession
The program proves quality medical interpretation instruction for adults who are bilingual in Spanish and English who desire entrance into the medical interpreter career pathway. Core knowledge and skills needed to handle advanced medical interpretation situations as follows: Basic and advanced interpreting skills Information on healthcare: introduction to healthcare system Advanced anatomy, physiology and medical terminology National code of ethics, standards of practice, roles of the interpreter, types of interpreting Memory skills and note taking skills Culture in interpreting. Self-awareness, basic characteristics of specific cultures, cultural brokering Communication skills. Listening, communication styles, effective communication, professional conduct, self-care, resources for professional growth.
High school diploma or equivalency and pass Spanish fluency exam.
