Overall Course Description:

Introduction to Basic Construction Skills prepares individuals for entry-level positions on project sites by providing the basics in safety, hand and power tools, construction math, materials handling, construction drawings, rigging and employability skills. The knowledge and skills established in Core are the foundation that successful construction careers are built on.

 

 

Teaching/Learning Methods:

Lecture, PowerPoint, Group Discussion, Collaborative Learning, One-on-One Coaching, Hands-on Training, etc.

 

Total Hours:

 126 - 150 hours

 

Course Design

The course content and curriculum are designed and from National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). There are nine modules of instruction in the core content. Each module contains basic instruction, performance profiles, and exams.

  • Module 1 Build Your Future in Construction – 6 hours
  • Module 2 Basic Safety – 24 hours
  • Module 3 Introduction to Construction Math – 24 hours
  • Module 4 Introduction to Hand Tools – 16 hours
  • Module 5 Introduction to Power Tools – 16 hours
  • Module 6 Introduction to Construction Drawings – 16 hours
  • Module 7 Introduction to Basic Rigging – 8 hours
  • Module 8 Basic Communication Skills – 8 hours
  • Module 9 Basic Employability Skills – 8 hours
  • Module 10 Introduction to Material Handling – 16 hours

Admission Requirements

The following criteria will be used for acceptance to Intrinsic Career and Training Institute:

  • Completed Application
  • Signed Enrollment Agreement
  • Education Requirement:

 

Every applicant must submit proof of the following documentation:

  • Copy of high school diploma or
  • Copy of GED certificate
  • Standardized exam with 10th grade or higher reading proficiency
  • Physical Examination (must show immunization status with TB test within the last 12 months)
  • Criminal Background Check (to be initiated by school)
  • Copy of Healthcare Insurance Coverage

 

Prior to registration, all candidates must provide a copy of a criminal background check (CBC) within the last 6 months. Applicants with a conviction may be accepted into the program, however eligibility to sit for the state Competency Exam will be at the discretion of the state. A waiver will be needed for the application to be approved.
