Goodwill Industries of Michiana staff will provide entry-level ASE instruction in brakes, steering and suspension, and engine repair using Electude and S/P2 curriculums. Goodwill Industries of Michiana, Gurley Leep Automotive, Zolman Tire, and Gates Toyota are partnering in this training program.

The course instructor will utilize Electude curriculum to provide theory-based knowledge and practice while preparing students to pass the entry-level ASE Engine, Steering & Suspension, and Brakes tests. Students will apply knowledge learned through Electude in the on-site automotive bay. The instructor will use the S/P2 Automotive Safety curriculum during the initial week of class to ensure all students have the knowledge and skills to safely work in the automotive industry.

The Electude curriculum is delivered through instructor-led modules where student knowledge is assessed through formative and summative assessments as well as ASE pre-tests.  Performance profiles assess students' application of curriculum knowledge in the on-site automotive bay.  Employability skills such as work ethic, attention to detail, communication, problem solving, ethics, and customer service are embedded into daily instruction. Students have the opportunity for career exploration, resume building, mock interviews, and networking with area employers.

Program completers will earn guaranteed interviews with Gurley Leep and Zolman Tire. Goodwill Industries of Michiana will also provide students with support of a Success Coach. Gurley Leep will provide the heavy equipment for the onsite automotive bay, guaranteed interviews to program graduates, and job shadow opportunities during the program session. Zolman Tire will offer job shadow opportunities during the program session, participate in mock interviews, and guarantee interviews to all program graduates.  Gates Toyota will provide vehicles for students to work on in our on-site automotive bay.

Automotive employers guest speak during the program session to increase job placement opportunities.  Goodwill Industries of Michiana hosts an Automotive Advisory Committee Meeting each quarter composed of employers, educators, and community stakeholders. Instructor shares quarterly metrics, curriculum, and communicates program needs.  Employers share industry trends and needs in their respective workforce.

Students have the opportunity to earn entry-level ASE certifications in Steering and Suspension, Brakes, and Engine Repair. Earning three of the entry-level ASE certifications will allow individuals to earn the professional ASE certifications after one year of full-time work in the automotive industry instead of two years. Hunter Alignment certification opportunities are available.
