Overall Course Description:

This rigorous HVACR curriculum prepares learners for a career as skilled heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers. It covers the concepts technicians need to safely install, maintain, and troubleshoot HVACR systems. The curriculum also covers needed basic knowledge of sheet metal, welding, and pipefitting. This curriculum meets HVAC Excellence accreditation standards to prepare trainees to sit for HVAC Excellence certification tests.  The four-level HVACR curriculum complies with the U.S. Department of Labor’s standards for apprenticeship programs. 

 

Teaching/Learning Methods:

Lecture, PowerPoint, Group Discussion, Collaborative Learning, One-on-One Coaching, Hands-on Training, etc.

120 - 125 hours

 

Course Design

The course content and curriculum are designed and from National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER). There are nine modules of instruction in the core content. Each module contains basic instruction, performance profiles, and exams.

  • Module 1 Introduction to HVACR – 5 hours
  • Module 2 Trade Mathematics – 10 hours
  • Module 3 Basic Electricity – 15 hours
  • Module 4 Introduction to Heating – 15 hours
  • Module 5 Introduction to Cooling – 30 hours
  • Module 6 Air Distribution Systems – 15 hours
  • Module 7 Basic Copper and Plastic Piping Practices – 12.5 hours
  • Module 8 Soldering and Brazing – 10 hours
  • Module 9 Basic Carbon Steel Piping Practices – 10 hours
