DOL Registered program.
The Indiana Plan Apprenticeship Readiness Program (APR) is a two-week, 80-hour training that mirrors a full work schedule and is designed to prepare participants for entry into construction apprenticeship programs and entry-level construction employment. Each day begins with a brief motivational message and team-building activity to reinforce soft skills such as communication, punctuality, and professionalism. The MC3 curriculum covers construction math and measurement (including fractions, decimals, and tape-measure reading), tools and materials (identification, safe use of hand and power tools, and basic construction materials), introductory blueprint reading, and OSHA-aligned safety and jobsite expectations (PPE, hazard recognition, following instructions, and working as part of a crew).
In addition, the course includes structured career navigation: students learn about more than a dozen skilled trades (electricians, carpenters, laborers, operating engineers, plumbers/pipefitters, ironworkers, roofers, sheet metal workers, etc.), the entry requirements for Registered Apprenticeship, and how to complete applications and interviews. Soft skill development is integrated throughout the program, with a focus on reliability, teamwork, problem solving, and a “career, not just a job” mindset.
Graduates apply these skills in several ways. Academically and technically, they are better prepared to pass apprenticeship entrance assessments and succeed in the first year of apprenticeship training and on the jobsite. Practically, their math, tools, and safety knowledge transfer directly to work on commercial, industrial, and residential jobsites across Central and Northwest Indiana. Professionally, their improved work habits and understanding of apprenticeship pathways position them to secure and retain high-wage, high-demand roles in the skilled construction trades.
