All JATF instructors must be journeyworkers in their occupation.
Floor layers are good at estimating materials and understanding pattern layouts. They also know the safe and proper use of many types of tools, adhesives, and fastening systems.
Like the other Carpenters occupations, instruction takes place at the training center on a quarterly basis. Every quarter, apprentices will come to the training center for a week-long, 40 hour class. Here they learn the basic skills and safety to be effective on the job site. There they work with qualified journeyworkers who guide them on the attaining skills needed in the workplace.
Apprentices need to be at least 17 years of age.
