The Indiana Next Level Programs of Study (NLPS) Building Trades pathway is designed to prepare students for careers in the construction industry by providing a structured, four-course sequence that combines foundational knowledge with advanced technical skills. This pathway aligns with industry standards and postsecondary education requirements, ensuring students are well-equipped for employment or further education in construction-related fields.

Course Sequence:

  1. Principles of Construction: Introduces students to the construction industry, covering basic safety, tools, materials, and construction processes.

  2. Construction Trades I: Concentrator A: Focuses on developing skills in areas such as carpentry, masonry, electrical, and plumbing systems, emphasizing hands-on experience and safety practices.

  3. Construction Trades II: Concentrator B: Builds upon previous knowledge, introducing advanced techniques and project management skills, and preparing students for industry certifications.

  4. Construction Trades Capstone: Provides students with real-world experience through work-based learning opportunities, allowing them to apply their skills in practical settings and gain valuable industry exposure.

Each course is aligned with postsecondary programs at institutions like Ivy Tech Community College and Vincennes University, facilitating dual credit opportunities and smooth transitions to further education. The program also emphasizes the attainment of industry-recognized certifications, such as OSHA 10, enhancing students' employability in the construction sector.
