Description

Certified HVAC Technician; A qualified adjunct faculty member, including Dual Credit, Workforce Alignment, and a full-time faculty teaching outside their discipline,meets the technical course standard through one of four routes:
Meets the full-time faculty discipline standard; or
Possesses a Department of Labor, Bureau for Apprenticeship Training recognized journeyman’s card in the discipline directly related to credentials, certifications,and competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and in journeyman status for two years or more with experience that is specifically linked to thecompetencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and
Possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR); or
Possesses any specialized certifications or credentials required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and
5 years directly related work experience in the field that is specifically linked to the competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR); or
Possesses a current Workplace Specialist License, Technology Education License (Technology and Engineering Education, Engineering and Technology Education), orCTE: Trade & Industrial Engineer or Manufacturing License granted by the Indiana Department of Education appropriate to course objectives and directly linked tocredentials, certifications, and competencies listed in the Curriculum of Record (COR), and
Possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught as indicated in the Curriculum of Record (COR).

This course prepares learners for the EPA Section 608 Certification Exam, covering Core, Type I, Type II, and Type III topics. It combines theory, regulation review, and application-based scenarios to ensure compliance with EPA refrigerant handling requirements. Students will gain the knowledge and test-taking strategies necessary to pass the Universal Certification.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and scope of the EPA Section 608 regulations.
  • Identify ozone-depleting substances and their environmental impact.
  • Apply safe refrigerant recovery, recycling, and handling procedures.
  • Distinguish requirements for Type I (small appliances), Type II (high-pressure systems), and Type III (low-pressure systems).
  • Perform leak detection, evacuation, and charging procedures in compliance with EPA guidelines.
  • Interpret regulatory requirements related to recordkeeping, disposal, and refrigerant substitutes.
  • Apply effective test-taking strategies for the EPA 608 exam.
