Battery Management Systems (BMS), Certificate

The 19-credit hour Undergraduate Certificate in Battery Management Systems (BMS) will provide an overview of different chemistries, use-vs-lifetime dependency, vehicle charging standards, Coulomb counters, battery protection devices, charge balancing systems, and decommissioning of old batteries. Students will learn the functions of battery-management systems, gain understanding of BMS measurements of voltage, current, temperature, isolation, battery safety, and the assembly steps of modular battery packs. Students will gain the necessary understanding of what a BMS is and why it is used upon the completion of this course. Within the certificate training, students will learn to interpret specifications of battery cells and market available BMS devices, learn the fundamentals behind the construction of battery packs, and recognize the crucial elements for successful design of rechargeable battery systems.
