The Indianapolis Public Schools Registered Teacher Apprenticeship (RAP) is a two-year, hybrid, job-embedded program designed to prepare IPS classified employees to become licensed K–6 Elementary Generalist teachers. The program is a federally registered apprenticeship (RAPIDS Code 3024HY, O*NET 25-3099.00) utilizing a hybrid model that combines 4,200–5,610 hours of on-the-job learning with 900 hours of related instruction delivered by Marian University.
Apprentices receive progressive, competency-based training in instructional practice, curriculum internalization, assessment, classroom environment, support for English Learners and students with disabilities, and delivery of high-quality instruction across content areas. Apprentices complete coursework online (both synchronous and asynchronous) while working full-time in IPS classrooms under the guidance of licensed mentor teachers. The program culminates in full-time student teaching, completion of a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, and eligibility for an Indiana K–6 teaching license.

Applicants must:• Currently work for IPS in an eligible classified role• Be accepted by Marian University into the Elementary Education bachelor’s program• Commit to full participation in coursework and apprenticeship requirements
