Program instructors hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or Class B and have a minimum of three years of professional commercial driving experience. Instructors possess hands-on experience in dump truck and construction hauling operations and demonstrate knowledge of DOT and FMCSA safety regulations. Faculty are qualified to provide classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and supervised field training in accordance with industry and safety standards.
The CDL Class B with Dump Truck and Heavy Equipment Operation Certificate Program prepares students to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B while receiving specialized training in tri-axle dump truck and construction hauling operations. The program combines classroom instruction, CDL PowerSuite curriculum, range and road driving, and structured, instructor-supervised field training conducted in real-world job environments. Students are trained in DOT-compliant pre-trip and post-trip inspections, safe vehicle operation, load distribution and weight compliance, jobsite safety, and maneuvering dump trucks in confined and uneven construction settings. This certificate program is designed to address workforce shortages in Indiana’s transportation and construction sectors and prepares graduates for immediate employment as CDL drivers and dump truck operators.
Students must meet all eligibility requirements to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B, including the ability to obtain a CDL learner’s permit. Participants must pass a DOT physical examination, drug screening, and meet state and federal driving record requirements. Students are required to demonstrate basic reading comprehension and communication skills necessary to understand safety instructions and regulatory materials. No prior commercial driving experience is required.
Open enrollment Applications are accepted year-round, with classes offered on an ongoing basis based on scheduled start dates.
