The Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) Program is a state-approved, 100-hour course designed to prepare experienced Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) for advanced roles in medication administration. Combining 60 hours of classroom instruction with 40 hours of supervised clinical practicum, the curriculum covers core competencies in pharmacology, dosage calculation, safe administration techniques across various routes, legal liability, error prevention, and documentation. Graduates acquire the knowledge required to safely administer routine, non-injectable medications under the direction of licensed nurses, serving as team members who improve resident care continuity in long-term care, assisted living, and post-acute healthcare environments.
