Description

Two years of on-the-road driving experience.Course Credential Standard: Credentials other than the program/discipline standard that may appropriately qualify one to teach a specific course. Examples might include a licensure, certification, specialty coursework, etc. specific to the single course.Program/Discipline Credential Standard: The credential standard that applies to most courses in a given program or discipline. All faculty teaching liberal arts courses and all full time faculty members must meet program/discipline credential standards.

Students will have 160 hours of training, which prepares students to become Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) holders. A combination of operating observation/lab classroom and behind-the-wheel skill development. This course provides a fundamental working knowledge of the varied aspects of the trucking industry. It prepares students for an entry-level position as a tractor-trailer driver with a trucking company. Students will become familiar with the industry's rules and regulations and experience hands-on driving techniques to prepare them to pass the written and practical portions of the State of Indiana's Class A CDL test. 49.0205 Truck and Bus Driver/Commercial Vehicle Operator and Instructor A program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to drive trucks and buses, delivery vehicles, for-hire vehicles and other commercial vehicles, or to instruct commerical vehicle operators. Includes instruction in operating gas, diesel, or electrically-powered vehicles; loading and unloading cargo or passengers; reporting delays or accidents on the road; verifying load against shipping papers; arranging transportation for personnel; and keeping records of receipts and fares.

A valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Minimum 21 years of age or older to drive across state lines. Applicants under 21 must drive in their state of domicile only—the ability to pass a DOT physical and drug screen. English proficiency demonstrated through the TOEFL exam, if applicable. An acceptable criminal background check.
