Description

The program director, Terry Myers, RN, has an Associate of Science in nursing from Indiana University awarded 5/12/1996. License number 28134288A. Terry Myers, RN has been the IU Health surgical technology program director since 1997 and was a surgical technologist from  1979 until 1996.

The other faculty are certified surgical technologists (CST) and have been practicing CSTs for more than 15 years. They are current with their certifications which are issued by the National Board of Surgical Technologist and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Katherine Holderfield, CST, Certification number: 1005601 current until 5/15/2026. Date originally certified: 5/15/2006

The program meets full-time for 12 months. three trimesters. Classroom lecture or lecture/lab combination for 644 contact hours. The clinical portion is completed in the surgery department of several major hospitals for 688 contact hours. Students are educated to function effectively in a surgical setting as a surgical technologist, encompassing all the essential competencies defined in the entry-level competencies for surgical technologists. They are also prepared to apply, take, and pass the national certification exam. After completion of the program, graduates are qualified to work as surgical technologists. Applicants to the program must have a minimum of an Associate or have been accepted into the University of Saint Francis and have completed 24 of their credit hours. Once the student completes the program, the University of Saint Francis will award an AAS degree.

The applicant must have earned the minimum of an associate degree or have been accepted into the College of Health Sciences-University of Saint Francis and will have completed the AAS in health science degree requirements of 24 credit hours prior to the start of the program
