Students in the nursing and practical nursing programs at Ivy Tech gain valuable skills and experiences by caring for real patients in a variety of clinical settings including lab simulations. The growing use of simulations in nursing schools allow students to assume roles that are typically unavailable in a clinical setting, allowing students to make critical choices and see the results of those decisions. We use a variety of teaching methods and learning strategies in the classroom, clinical settings, and online to appeal to every learning style. Students can even take some nursing and practical nursing courses online. The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is an integral part of the health care team. The Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing can be earned on the way to acquiring the Associate of Applied Science degree. Many available jobs require this certificate. This program provides education in conceptual and technical skills for specific occupations. Curriculum is designed to develop competency in the comprehension of general and technical skills. The Practical Nursing program leads to a Technical Certificate that can be completed in one year. The practical nursing program is a selective program with a separate application process and only accepts a limited number of students each year. Contact your campus of interestfor more details and learnhow to applyto start your career. Practical nursing program graduates are eligible to apply for the NCLEX-PN licensure examination. Graduates who successfully pass the NCLEX-PN examination can begin their career in nursing, continue their education at Ivy Tech, or transition to an LPN to ASN course. PN graduates are qualified to provide basic care, under the direction of registered nurses and doctors, for patients in a variety of health care settings such as nursing homes, extended care facilities, hospitals, clinics, home health care and physician offices. Displayed pricing is based on full-time enrollment.
