The Long-Term Certificate in Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning Technology (HVAC) gives students the skills they need to succeed in the workforce. From learning about duct fabrication to heat pump systems, graduates are prepared to encounter whatever their career might throw their way.

Heating and cooling units are essential in a Midwest climate. From hot summers to cold winters, HVAC technicians are truly in-demand in Indiana. We likely do not think about how important HVAC businesses are until something has malfunctioned.

In the Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Technology program, students will learn to

  • Safely and properly install and service typical HVAC systems including distribution systems and controls
  • Perform system design, layout and material estimates with consideration of energy efficiency, green technology and code principles
  • Communicate technical information both written and verbal
  • Function effectively as a member of a technical team
  • Understand the need for and engagement in self-directed continued professional development
  • Demonstrate understanding of and commitment to address professional and ethical responsibilities, including a respect for diversity and inclusion

Applicants must take Math and English placement exams prior to register for classes.

Ivy Tech does not have a deadline for admission. Our 8-week class sessions start throughout the year—in January, March, June, August, and October—and there is no hard deadline for applying for any of the start dates. It's important, though, to apply early enough that you'll be able to complete all the degree planning, financial aid, and registration activities that need to happen before your first day. We recommend you apply about one month before you intend to start classes. See upcoming start dates >>
