Description

A qualified faculty member in Cyber Security/Information Assurance (CSIA) meets the program standard through one of four routes:

1. Possesses an earned masters degree or higher, from a regionally accredited institution in information assurance or related field as appropriate to the program; or

2. Possesses an earned related or out-of-field masters degree from a regionally accredited institution, with documented 18 semester hours or the equivalent of courses beyond the introductory principle(s) level in information assurance or related field as appropriate to the program; or 3. Possesses an earned related or out-of-field masters degree from a regionally accredited institution, with documentation in two or more of the following: a. Professional certification (national, regional or state), b. Two years of in-field professional employment., c. Documented evidence of teaching experience, including data or award, d.Documentation of research and publication in the field, e. Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor degree, equivalent to 18 semester hours or equivalent subject matter coursework, CEU's, vendor, or military; or

4. Possesses an earned bachelor degree from a regionally accredited institution, in information assurance or related field as appropriate to the program, with documentation in two or more of the following: a. Professional certification (national, regional, or state) in the field; b. Two years of in-field professional employment; c. Documented evidence of teaching excellence, including date of award; d. Documentation of research and publication in the field; e. Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor degree, equivalent to 18 semester hours or equivalent subject matter coursework, CEU's, vendor, or military.

The career Certificate (CT) in Cyber Security Incident Analyst is 26 credits and completion of certain electives potentially enable students to earn certifications including CompTIA A+ and CompTIA Security +. This short-term certificate prepares you for entry-level jobs in cybersecurity. 

If your goal is to earn an associate degree in Cybersecurity, you can earn this CT on your way. The certificate is designed to provide a gateway into entry-level cybersecurity careers. That means you may be able to enter the workforce in your desired field even before you graduate, if your plan includes working while you’re in school.

To enroll in this short-term Cybersecurity Incident Analyst certification, you should have:

  • A high school diploma or GED

  • Basic computer and IT skills, including file navigation and internet safety

  • Some understanding of networking and cybersecurity concepts

  • A willingness to learn and a detail-oriented mindset

  • Prior coursework or certifications such as CompTIA Network+ or Security+ are helpful but not required.
