A qualified faculty member teaching laboratory and clinical courses in the Dental Assisting program meets both of the following criteria

1. Is a Certified Dental Assistant (CDA), and

2. Has two years of directly related work experience.

The Dental Assisting Technical Certificate (TC) is a great way to start your career quickly, and is ideal for students looking to take a step-by-step approach to starting in the industry.

After completing the TC, students regularly can follow several routes depending on what fits their goals and situation. Some can even be done simultaneously:

  1. Get an entry-level job in dental assisting to start earning money right away
  2. Get a head start on your Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential by sitting for any or all of the three Dental Assisting National Board (DANB) exams that the TC prepares you for.
  3. Take more courses at Ivy Tech to build on your TC and earn an associate degree.
  4. Add the CDA certification to your application to become more competitive in Ivy Tech's Dental Hygiene program with selective admission.

Ivy Tech does not have a deadline for admission. Our 8-week class sessions start throughout the year—in January, March, June, August, and October—and there is no hard deadline for applying for any of the start dates. It's important, though, to apply early enough that you'll be able to complete all the degree planning, financial aid, and registration activities that need to happen before your first day. We recommend you apply about one month before you intend to start classes. See upcoming start dates >>
