Description

All trainers have gone through the train-the-trainer curriculum established by the Detroit-based Industrial Sewing and Innovation Center (ISAIC). ISAIC is a national leader in the teaching of industrial sewing. Their mission is to train people in advanced and emerging manufacturing technologies for soft goods production.

This Related Technical Instruction (RTI) course provides top-notch industrial sewing training. During the six week class, students will learn and practice standard sewing techniques on multiple industrial machines using a variety of textiles. You’ll receive an overview of industrial manufacturing processes, technical terminology, materials knowledge, safety, and employee responsibility instruction. Classes have no more than 10 students, so there is plenty of one-on-one interaction with instructors and all supplies and equipment are provided. The Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Textile and Apparel: Industrial Sewing Technician program provides skills for industrial sewing for manufacturing. You’ll gain proficiency in using industrial straight stitch, zigzag, over-lock, cover stitch, blind hemmers and walking feet sewing machines. Students also learn costing and production methods of construction. When you finish the course, you’ll be able to enter the industrial sewing industry at an entry-level position or above and you’ll be on your way to a career in advanced manufacturing. You will also be eligible to become a Registered Apprentice and be paid to learn on the job.

Applicants must be age 17 or older. All applicants will go through an interview process and pass a sewing test (involving vision, color blindness, and spatial relationship) which assesses the applicant's physical suitability and ability to perform the tasks of sewing machine operation.

If you are interested in enrolling, the course can be started at negotiated time and can be offered at a time convenient for you. For example, if you are available three days a week from 9am - 3pm, you can complete the program in about 12 weeks. Or, if you can only come in two days a week, or only in the mornings, you can spread the course out over the maximum 4 months, to complete it.

Once you have paid tuition in full, you can start within 30 days, but usually within 2 weeks.
