The program's minimum requirements for faculty are EFDA's with previous CDA credentials. There are also Dental Hygientist's on staff.
Course Overview
This program offers 7 hours of clinical and didactic education required by the Indiana Board of Dentistry for certification in coronal polishing. (828 IAC 6-1-2) This course will include:
Oral anatomy
Tooth morphology
Indications, contraindications, risks and complications for coronal polishing
Ethics and jurisprudence relating to coronal polishing
The laboratory and clinical activity will include instruction in person at our 24 W. Rampart Rd, Shelbyville, In 46176 location:
Two (2) hours of laboratory work, including a mannequin and two (2) live patients, in the use of a slow speed hand piece, prophy cup, and occlusal polishing brush and hand dexterity. Clinical competency demonstrated on a minimum of five (5) patients
Training in using a slow-speed hand piece
Principles of coronal polishing
Operator & patient positioning/ergonomics
Polishing coronal surfaces of teeth, preferred polishing technique, polishing agents
Coronal polish on typodonts
Coronal polish on partner and practical with disclosing solution
Students must be current Dental Assistants employed for a minimum of 1 year in a Dental office. This is a requirement by the Indiana State Board of Dentistry.
