The SSC Personal Services Qualified Medication Aide (QMA) program not only trains for the basic QMA skills and certification but the QMA Insulin certification as well. In person classroom instruction includes but is not limited to: Roles and responsibilities of the QMA, legal and ethical issues, resident rights, anatomy and physiology, diseases and disorders, obtaining vital signs, medication preparation and administration within the QMA scope of practice, observing and reporting adverse reactions to medications, infection control and safety procedures. The class will also prepare students to take the next step which is to become insulin certified, which can be obtained after first passing the QMA state certification exam. The class is designed to be completed in 4 weeks which will be completed in nine, eight hour class days (only 3 days per week for 4 weeks) to allow students to continue to work while achieving higher status. The SSC program will prepare students to take the QMA state exam at the conclusion of the class and practicum hours. QMAs are utilized in various areas of healthcare settings such as corrections, long-term care, rehabilitation facilities, adult day centers and assisted living facilities.
