Faculty must be commercially licensed with a minimum Class B CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements. Faculty must have a minimum of 45 days of driving a daily schoolbus route and have an active Yellow Card.
Training will begin with an orientation that details the process required to obtain the Class B CDL with Passenger and Schoolbus endorsements.
Following orientation, prospective trainees will be asked to obtain their Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) from the license branch.
Once trainee has Commercial Learners Permit, they will meet with instructor for 2 hours to begin learning components of Pre-Trip inspection. The trainer will identify and teach trainee each part of the pre-trip inspection. Every training session will begin with the pre-trip to practice and in-grain that knowledge. Number of subsequent sessions will be dependent on the trainees progress with pre-trip inspection, skills pad practice and logged road hours with a trainer. Minimum number of training hours is 25, logged between on-road driving, skills pad, and pre-trip inspection. Minimum driving hours is 8 with a trainer and 4 hours of observation. Trainee must also complete the 3-day Entry Level Driver Training course from the Department of Education that is necessary to obtain yellow card.
Prerequisites include a valid drivers license with the ability to obtain a commercial license.
