Instructors must qualify in one or more of these ways, by the state they would be working in:Qualifying Criteria 1High school diploma or equivalent plus post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in related field from an accredited institution3 or more years related work experience within the past 10 years as a Dental Assistant / Chairside Current in Radiography (optional in WV) and CDA eligible. The Dental Assistant program is 36 weeks inlength for day and evening students,720 clock hours, 50.5 quarter credit hours in length, 355 lecture contact hours of lecture with applicable outside work, 185 laboratory/clinical contact hours, and 180 externship hours. The graduate of the Dental Assistant Program will be prepared to seek entry-level positions as dental assistants. Graduates are also capable of filling entry-level positions such as dental receptionist, dental insurance clerk, dental supply salesperson and administrative assistant.The Dental Assistant program includes the following courses:Fundamentals of Dental Assisting Dental Law and Ethics Introduction to the Dental Team Dental Radiography and Clinical Procedures Skull Anatomy/Human Dentition Infection Control/Microbiology Oral Surgery/Endodontics Anatomy/Cranial Nerves Chairside Dental Assisting Dental Instruments and Equipment Dental Materials Dental Laboratory Procedures and Prosthodontics Dental Records Management Administrative Dental Assisting Periodontics/Orthodontics Dental Emergencies/CPR Externship. This program includes 50.50 quarter hours.

Admissions Requirements1. Each Student will satisfactorily complete an evaluation that measures general ability. The evaluation used is the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam. A score of 15 (Medical Assistant and Dental Assistant) or 16 (Medical Insurance Billing and Office Administration) correct answers is required on the Wonderlic Scholastic Level Exam for acceptance into the appropriate program.2. Students entering Ross Medical Education Center must have graduated from high school, secured a GED, or completed homeschooling at the secondary level. Students entering the Dental Assistant program must be 18 years of age.
