Course Objective: The CDL-A Truck Driver Training program is designed to prepare students for the Indiana CDL-A examination. This course consists of 40 hours in class learning and 80 hours of hands on skills in a truck. Upon successful completion of this course students will be expected to know/demonstrate: Basic Operations: Control Systems, Vehicle Inspections, Basic Control, Shifting, Backing, Coupling/Uncoupling, Basic Control, Special Rigs Safe Operating Practices: Visual Search, Communication, Speed Management, Night Operation, Extreme Driving Conditions, Proficiency Development (Safe Operating Practices), Truck Safety at Railroad Crossings Advanced Operating Practices: Hazard Perception, Emergency Maneuvers, Skid Control and Recovery Vehicle Maintenance: Vehicle Systems, Preventive Maintenance and Servicing, Diagnosing and Reporting Malfunctions Non-Vehicle Activities: Handling Cargo, Cargo Documentation, Hours of Service Requirements, Accident Procedures, Personal Health and Safety, Trip Planning, Public and Employee Relations, International Border Crossing Procedures, Driver Dispatch Relations, DOT Rules and Regulations Preparation for CDL Examination: General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination Vehicles, Doubles and Triples, Tank Trucks, Hazardous Materials. WIN career readiness software must be successfully completed.
