Description

All program faculty are required to have a current CHW (Community Health Workers) Certification through ASPIN in good standing. CCHWs must remain up to date on CEUs (Continuing education units) and has not allowed Certification to lapse to stay in good standing. ASPIN requires 14 CEUs annually. Program Faculty have successfully completed all current community health worker related courses and passed all required tests, including the CHW certification exam, as well as ASPIN's Certified Trainer training program. Program Faculty have prior training experience,a Bachelor’s Degree or in lieu of degree, experience working as a CCHW, and experience working with the public in a helping role.

The ASPIN US Department of Labor Registered Community Health Worker Apprenticeship program entails 148 hours of related-instruction and 2,080 hours of on-the-job training. Trainees will be trained as Certified Community Health Workers (CCHW) with additional didactic training in Opioid Basics, Opioid Impacted Family Support, Chronic Care, Domestic Violence, Virtual Field Placements in Behavioral Health, Primary Care, and a Jail tour, totaling 148 hours. Next trainees will be enrolled in the ASPIN CHW Apprenticeship which is a one-year on-the-job learning attainment of 2,080 hours. Apprenticeship on the job learning competencies include introduction to the CHW role and orientation to the work environment, development of community-based networking and advocacy, health literacy, communication, and teaching and supporting others. The related instruction can take 12 to 26 weeks to complete.

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Eligibility Criteria: Must have or are working towards at least a high school diploma or equivalency. Must have a personal email address, access to a computer and internet,  Must be a legal resident of Indiana or work in Indiana. Certification Eligibility Criteria: To be certified, individuals must be 18 years of age and have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalency. (per DMHA)
