Description

Associates Degree, EPA 608, and five years industry experience. Course Credential Standard: Credentials other than the program/discipline standard that may appropriately qualify one to teach a specific course. Examples might include a licensure, certification, specialty coursework, etc. specific to the single course. Professional Certification: A certificate by an external state, regional, national, or international agency that attests to significant breadth and depth of knowledge within a field of study.

Covers procedures used to diagnose electrical, control, mechanical and refrigeration problems common to cooling systems. Familiarize students with using the refrigeration cycle and temperature/pressure charts as diagnostic tools in troubleshooting refrigeration system problems. Include various methods of checking refrigerant charges, methods for charging air conditioning and refrigeration systems, electrical and refrigeration system components, and schematic and pictorial diagrams. Upon completion, participants will test for EPA 608 certification.Note: Miscellaneous cost includes certification exam fees. MAJOR COURSE LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: Demonstrate safe practices and procedures. Interpret and utilize pictorial and schematic diagrams. Identify compressor terminals using an ohmmeter. Complete compressor electrical test for grounded or open windings. Test capacitors and properly size replacements. Describe how to replace defective compressors and clean the system after a motor burnout. Determine superheat and sub cooling on an operating refrigeration system. Identify and describe the function of common electrical components found on A/C and refrigeration systems covered in this course. Identify and describe the function of common refrigeration system components found on A/C and refrigeration systems covered in this course. Outline the NEC code requirements for wiring A/C units and disconnects. Fan motor replacement guidelines.
