Description

School of Technology Standard:

A qualified full-time faculty member meets the education component of the School of Technology discipline standard through one of three routes:

  1. Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution in technology, engineering, engineering technology; or an earned baccalaureate or higher degree directly related to the program’s discipline and possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught and has two years of directly related work experience that is specifically linked to competencies; or
  2. Possesses an earned baccalaureate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institutionAnd, possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught ), and five years of directly related work experience that is specifically linked to the competencies; or
  3. Possesses an earned associate or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution directly related to the program’s discipline, possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught, and And three years of directly related work experience that is specifically linked to the competencies

A qualified part-time/adjunct faculty member meets the technical course standard through one of four routes:

  1. Meets the fulltime faculty discipline standard; or
  2. Possesses a Department of Labor, Bureau for Apprenticeship Training recognized journeyman’s card in the discipline directly related to credentials, certifications, and competencies, and in journeyman status for two years or more with experience that is specifically linked to the competencies, And, possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught; or
  3. Possesses any specialized certifications or credentials required for the class being taught And, 5 years directly related work experience in the field that is specifically linked to the competencies; or
  4. Possesses a current Workplace Specialist License granted by the Indiana Department of Education appropriate to course objectives and directly linked to credentials, certifications, and competencies, And, possesses any specialized certifications required for the class being taught

Repairs and overhauls automobiles, buses, trucks, and other automotive vehicles:  Examines vehicle and discusses with customer or AUTOMOBILE REPAIR SERVICE ESTIMATOR; AUTOMOBILE TESTER; or BUS INSPECTOR nature and extent of damage or malfunction.  Plans work procedure, using charts, technical manuals, and experience. Raises vehicle, using hydraulic jack or hoist, to gain access to mechanical units bolted to underside of vehicle.  Removes unit, such as engine, transmission, or differential, using wrenches and hoist.  Disassembles unit and inspects parts for wear, using micrometers, calipers, and thickness gauges.  Repairs or replaces parts, such as pistons, rods, gears, valves, and bearings, using mechanic's hand tools.  Overhauls or replaces carburetors, blowers, generators, distributors, starters, and pumps.  Rebuilds parts, such as crankshafts and cylinder blocks, using lathes, shapers, drill presses, and welding equipment.  Rewires ignition system, lights, and instrument panel.  Relines and adjusts brakes, aligns front end, repairs, or replaces shock absorbers, and solders leaks in radiator.  Mends damaged body and fenders by hammering out or filling in dents and welding broken parts. Replaces and adjusts headlights, and installs and repairs accessories, such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.       

The course outline for apprenticeship employees is required.  After reviewing the course material, apprenticeship employees must execute competency in each skill set to the satisfaction of the apprenticeship mentor. Skill sets in each of the Levels may be taken in any order. 

Apprenticeship employees are required to enroll in the Ivy Tech Automotive Technology Technical Certificate Program completing all the course of study as outlined.  Completion of the Technical Certificate in Automotive Technology is REQUIRED. Completion of Associate Degree of Applied Science Automotive Technology Degree in HIGHLY encouraged (and funded) by Chariot Automotive Group.

  1. Notification of interest and application for Chariot Auto Group DOL Apprenticeship Program be made to:  Chariot Auto Group, 1220 East Boulevard, Kokomo, IN 46902  PH: (765) 626-0081 or 765-457-1189 
  2. Application review by Chariot Auto Group
  3. Selected Applicant will interview with Chariot Auto Group and representative from Ivy Tech Community College -Kokomo
  4. Applicant must score a 70% or higher on the Chariot Motors Aptitude Test
  5. Applicant must apply to and be accepted for admissions to Ivy Tech Community College -Kokomo
  6. Accepted Applicant must complete DOL application document.
  7. Accepted applicant must complete Chariot Auto Group DOL Apprenticeship Program application document.
