Early Childhood Education Program Standard:A qualified faculty member in early childhood education meets the program standard through:1. Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in early childhood education, child development; or2. Possesses an earned master’s or higher degree, from a regionally accredited institution with 18 graduate credit hours in courses closely related to early childhood education and development, with academic preparation appropriate to the course and /or specialty being taught; and3. Possesses one of the following:a) Professional certification in the field; orb) Two years of directly related work experience in the field of early childhood - birth through age 8.ECED 105 Course StandardA qualified faculty member teaching ECED 105 meets the Early Childhood Education (ECED) program standard and holds a CDA Professional Development Specialist credential

The early childhood education program focuses on child growth and development issues related to children birth through age eight. Students explore the theories of early childhood as they relate to best practices employed for working with young children and their families. Emphasis is placed on the development of skills and techniques for providing appropriate learning environments that encourage healthy reciprocal relationships and instruction that supports the child's physical, emotional, social and cognitive development. You will develop competencies through classroom instruction, observations and active participation in early childhood settings. Sample careers in this field include: Program director, Family Child Care owner, preschool or infant/toddler teacher, child-life specialist, resource and referral services, teacher's aide.
