Description

Informatics (INFM) Program Standard: A qualified faculty member in informatics (INFM) meets the program standard through one of four routes: 1. Possesses an earned master's degree or higher, from a regionally accredited institution in information systems, information technology, or related field as appropriate to the program; or 2. Possesses an earned related or out-of-field master's degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documented 18 semester hours or equivalent of courses beyond the introductory principle(s) level in information systems, information technology, or related field as appropriate to the program; or 3. Possesses an earned related or out-of-field masters degree, from a regionally accredited institution, with documentation in two or more of the following: a. Professional certification (national, regional or state) b. Two years of in-field professional employment c. Documented evidence of research and publication in the field e. Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor degree, equivalent to 18 semester hours or equivalent subject matter coursework, CEU's, vendor, or military; or 4. Possesses an earned bachelor degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in information systems, information technology, or related field as appropriate to the program, with documentation in two or more of the following: a. Professional certification (national, regional or state) b. Two years of in-field professional employment c. Documented evidence of teaching excellence, including date of award d. Documentation of research and publication in the field e. Documented relevant additional coursework beyond the bachelor degree, equivalent to 18 semester hours or equivalent subject matter coursework, CEU's, vendor, or military.

Short-term certificates are sequences of technical and professional courses that are industry focused and designed for workforce preparation. They provide access to targeted, short-term training in a discipline, and completers may sit for specific certification exams. Courses in certificate programs also apply toward technical certificates and associate degree programs in the subject area. This program is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission.

The field of informatics dynamically infuses information science and technology into the lives of people at work and play. It involves studying how people interact with computers to increase productivity and enhance communication. Students will learn to critically analyze approaches to processing information and develop skills to design, implement, and evaluate the next generation of information technology tools. It is a way to make a difference in the lives of others, so the focus of the program is on the social impact of computing - how people and technology connect. Students will study topics in information technology and information systems, completing their degree with a focus in areas such as health sciences, criminal justice, accounting, social sciences and others.

The CT in Informatics is 20 credits and completion of certain electives potentially enable students to earn a certification in CompTIA A+.
