Description

Kentucky law requires the following:Nurse faculty in an associate degree prelicensure registered nurse program shall hold a degree from an accredited college or university, which shall include: 1. A masters degree within the discipline of nursing or have completed that portion of a nursing program that would be equivalent to a masters in nursing degree; 2. A baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing and a masters degree in a related field, which includes a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate hours in nursing. The eighteen (18) graduate hours in nursing may also be earned independently of the related masters degree; or 3. A baccalaureate degree with a major in nursing or have completed that portion of a state approved program of nursing that would be equivalent to a baccalaureate degree, and the nurse faculty member shall complete within five (5) years of hire a masters degree commensurate with either subparagraph 1. or 2. of this paragraph.

This degree program will provide an avenue of instruction for the individuals who wish to obtain an Associate Degree in Nursing. The program includes theory on role transition in the current health care system, related professional ethical and legal issues, understanding and application of critical thinking skills, the application of the nursing process in the adult clinical setting, basic intravenous therapy, and the methods of techniques of effective interdisciplinary communication and therapeutic patient communication. The program provides the foundational understanding of the role of the Registered Nurse as the provider of care, member of the discipline and manager of care. At the conclusion of the program the graduate will be able to apply for licensure and take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). This program prepares graduates for employment in numerous health care settings. Registered Nurses hold positions in hospitals, nursing care facilities, physician offices, home health and in federal state and local government service organizations.

1. Must be a high school graduate or possess a General Education Development (GED) diploma.2. Have an earned: • ACT* composite score of at least 19 or higher,SAT* composite score of at least 1350 or TEAS-RN** composite score at the proficient level (69% in Reading • 63% in Math • 60% in English and Language Usage )ACT/SAT scores must have been earned within the last five years. ** Each prospective student is permitted two attempts to pass the TEAS. However, they must wait 30 days after the first attempt to test again.3. Must be able to communicate effectively in English.4. Satisfactorily pass a criminal background screening prior to the end of the drop/add period5. Satisfactorily pass a nine panel drug screen test administered by Baptist Worx.6. Complete all necessary medical documentation required to attend clinical.7. Complete the Nursing Application
