Registered Nurse

Optional training for QMA's designed to instruct the QMA regarding the roles and responsibilites of Insulin administation. This training will ensure student understanding of their scope of practice. Students will learn observing/reporting/documenting signs and symptoms of hyper- and hypoglycemia, insulin types, oral hypoglycemics, administering insulin from a vial and with an insulin pen, diabetic types and complications, glossary terms, blood glucose monitoring, insulin storage, syringe types, injection site rotation, and emergency action. All students must demonstrate insulin administration from a vial and using an insulin pen with 100% accuracy in order to complete the course. Once the classroom hours are complete, each student must go to their facility and administer insulin under the supervision of an RN for 2-4 hours.

In order for a student to take the QMA Insulin course they need to be a Certified Nursing Assistant and completed and passed the Qualified Medication Course. Once they have both of those credentials they are allowed to take the QMA Insuling course.
