Truck Driver Institute's program in Truck Driver Training is designed to offer the student the opportunity to gain the knowledge and develop the skills that will assist them in obtaining and retaining a job as a professional semi-tractor-trailer driver. The training program consists of 154 hours of instruction that is offered over a three (3) week period, Monday through Friday from 7am to 5:30 pm, in which 30 minutes is provided for lunch. These 10 hour days are designed to replicate the Hours of Service a professional semi-tractor-trailer driver must observe according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Week One (1) consists of Classroom Exercises designed to aid the student in obtaining their CDL Permit. Week Two (2) and Week Three (3) consist of Range and Road exercises that develop the hands on skills necessary to safely operate a semi-tractor-trailer in accordance with DOT rules and regulations. Skills obtained upon completion of the training program include but are not limited to:Safe and efficient backing, shifting, turning, coupling/uncoupling, vehicle inspection/maintenance, safe driving practices, communication, visual search, speed and space management, log keeping, cargo management and documentation. An additional four (4) hours of Night Driving is offered during the course so that the student may experience road conditions after dark. Please note all of our graduates will have passed their State CDL examination, because TDI requires passing the examination before a student may graduate from the program.
