Qualifications of Instructors:

Faculty evidence the following: i. (a) Graduation from an accredited program recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in the specialty field or content area in which they teach; or (b) Graduation from an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g., hospital-based program) in the specialty field or content area in which they teach; or 64 (c) Graduation from an institution located outside of the United States and its territories in the specialty field or subject area in which they teach. The institution must have on file from an agency which attests to the qualitative and quantitative equivalency of the foreign education and the specific courses. The institution must use the credential evaluation services of an agency that has published standards for membership, affiliations to U.S.-based international higher education associations, and are frequently linked to and used by federal agencies, state agencies, educational institutions and employers (e.g., NACES and AICE). ii. Two (2) years of practical experience in the content area in which they teach. iii. A current license, certification or other credential if required by local, state and/or federal laws to work in the field, with the exception of those teaching in non-core (e.g., general education) courses.

Program Description:

Objective: This diploma program is designed to train individuals for entry-level medical office positions. A medical assistant is a medical support professional that performs a variety of tasks to assist physicians in providing patient care, while ensuring that clinics and hospitals run smoothly and efficiently. While medical assistants working in a smaller practice may be required to perform some administrative tasks, those working in larger medical facilities focus mainly on providing support services directly related to patient care. While administrative medical assistants work mainly at the front desk and reception area of a clinic or doctor’s office, clinical medical assistants are more often found at the physician’s side working in close contact with patients. Graduates of this program receive coursework relating to offering assistance to the physician in direct patient care. Graduates will be prepared to seek positions such as clinical/medical assistant.

51.0801 Medical/Clinical Assistant A program that prepares individuals, under the supervision of physicians, to provide medical office administrative services and perform clinical duties including patient intake and care, routine diagnostic and recording procedures, pre-examination and examination assistance, and the administration of medications and first aid. Includes instruction in basic anatomy and physiology; medical terminology; medical law and ethics; patient psychology and communications; medical office procedures; and clinical diagnostic, examination, testing, and treatment procedures.

Prerequisites Description:

ATA College’s minimum requirements for application in a certificate, diploma or degree program are to be either a high school graduate or have a GED certificate. All potential students are required to meet with an ATA admissions representative for an admission interview and to tour the ATA facility.
