Between retail and hospital pharmacy, Katie Reigelsperger has 12 years of experience as a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). Beginning at CVS Pharmacy in 2008, Katie worked as the Lead Technician and Inventory Specialist for four years before moving into hospital pharmacy. In the hospital, Katie was IV and Chemo trained and was then promoted to Pharmacy Supervisor and was in charge of the training program for 30+ technicians in a variety of different areas that included but were not limited to IV, Chemo, and Medication History roles. Katie was in charge of the local high school internship program for the pharmacy, served as a member of the hospital’sHAZAMT team, and was a part of a program for the local high school that taught seniors about different health care fields prior to graduation. After founding the school and successfully teaching this course for a year, Katie resigned from her supervisor position in October 2020 to open and teach at KLR Pharmacy Technician Training School full time.
This fully online, eight week course is designed to prepare students to take a national exam through National Healthcareer Association/NHA in order to become a Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT). With instructor led classes, projects, and guest speakers; students are introduced to and learn the fundamentals of pharmacy history and pharmacy law at large. Additionally, students learn the Top 200 Drugs (brand, generic, and indication), sig codes (pharmaceutical terminology), and basic pharmacy math calculations. Upon completion of this course, students will have knowledge of sterile and nonsterile compounding basics, the dispensing process, basic pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, Federal Privacy requirements, and Unit Dose Systems and Medication Repackaging.
Students must have a high school diploma or GED or be actively working towards a high school diploma or GED.
