Registered Nurses (RN) for QMA classroom instructors and the practicum QMA students can be supervised by a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and RN
The Medication Aide Program prepares and provides students with the knowledge and skills to become Qualified Medication Aides (QMA). Students will be taught the six rights of administering medication, right patient, right time, right medication, right route, right dose, right documentation, body systems, checking vital signs, and observing the side effects of medications. QMA to administer approved medication under the supervision of a licensed nurse in long-term care and assisted living facilities. Our experienced instructors will discuss the QMA Scope of practice and legal and ethical resident's rights. The Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH) program required 100 hours, of which 60 hours of classroom instruction and 40 hours of practicum. The class will meet for 8 hours twice a week; after class completion, for 4 weeks, the student will attend 40 hours of practicum at an ISDH-approved practicum site.
The applicant must be at least 18 years of age. They must pass the enrollment pre-test by demonstrating the ability to read and write English and perform basic math addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. Need to have a physical examination and TB test and able to pass the statewide background check. Proof of High School diploma or GED, proof of completion of an Indiana Nurse Adie Training Course, and Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) certificate must be in good standing in the Indiana Nurse Aide Registry. Proof for working 1000 hours as a CNA within 2 years.
