PTCE Certified/Industry knowledge and experience.Course Credential Standard: Credentials other than the program/discipline standard that may appropriately qualify one to teach a specific course. Examples might include a licensure, certification, specialty coursework, etc. specific to the single course.Professional Certification: A certificate by an external state, regional, national, or international agency that attests to significant breadth and depth of knowledge within a field of study.
This course will prepare students to enter the pharmacy field and take the PTCE (Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam). They will then be granted the designation of CPhTs. These individuals will be able to work in hospitals, home infusion pharmacies, community pharmacies, and other health care settings working under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.
Course content includes medical terminology specific to the pharmacy, reading and interpreting prescriptions, and defining drugs by generic and brand names. Students will learn about medical terminology, therapeutics, laws, and ethics, calculations, pharmacology, dosing and conversion, prescription processing, inventory control, medication error prevention, workplace safety, billing, and claims, as well as many other topics.
This program runs for 80 hours and has an “optional” externship which will be encouraged. Hands-on skill training that includes: • IV training • Learning to compounding, • Learning to read and write prescriptions Medical Knowledge that includes: • Anatomy • Physiology • How drugs interact with the body • HIPAA guidelines, • Current cGMP practices • Compliance guidelines • First Aid • Licensing
