The program faculty will be led by a licensed registered nurse. The clinical medical assistant instructor will have field experience and will hold a Medical Administrative Assistant certification.

Program Description:

Medical administrative assistants (also called medical office assistants or medical secretaries) are critical in keeping healthcare offices running smoothly, and also play an important role in the patient experience. Tasks vary by setting, but may include: Reviewing and answering practice correspondence Operating computer systems to accomplish office tasks Answering calls and scheduling appointments Greeting patients and updating electronic medical records Updating and maintaining patient and other practice-specific information Coordinating operation reports such as time and attendance Operating office software and equipment

51.0716 Medical Administrative/Executive Assistant and Medical Secretary A program that prepares individuals to perform the duties of special assistants and personal secretaries for practicing physicians and nurses, health care facilities and services administrators, and other health care professionals. Includes instruction in business and medical communications, medical terminology, principles of health care operations, public relations and interpersonal communications, software applications, record-keeping and filing systems, scheduling and meeting planning, applicable policy and regulations, and professional standards and ethics.

Prerequisites Description:

The prerequisites for the program will require students to have a high school diploma or high school equivalency certification (GED/HSE).Students must pass an entrance exam on campus.
