Certified Phlebotomy Technician presents the principles and practices of laboratory specimen collection and processing. The course will also cover infection control, basic medical terminology, basic anatomy physiology, blood collection, quality management, and ethical and legal issues. The course will prepare the student to sit for the Phlebotomy Technician certification exam via the National Health career Association (NHA). The course will consist of 80 hours of classroom/laboratory instruction. Prior to taking the exam, the student must complete 30 successful venipunctures (live) and ten successful capillary sticks with documentation.
The applicant must be at least 18 years of age. They must pass the enrollment pre-test by demonstrating the ability to read and write English and perform essential math addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. In addition, pass a physical examination and TB test and pass the statewide background check:— proof of high school diploma or GED.
Applicationsshould be submitted two weeks before the first day of class.
