Instructors must be certified welders. Instructors must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent. Instructors must pass criminal background checks.
This course is designed to prepare students to gain the necessary skills to pass the horizontal, vertical and flat level welding test approved by an American Welding Society Inspector. Students will have the option of FCAW or SMAW Welding. Students will attend a 5 week course Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5PM - 8 PM. Students will be assigned distance with an online welding program through Miller and participate in "Math on Metal" via direct instruction on campus. Students will also be assigned Essential Soft Skills on WIN. Each student will be provided with safety gear and tools of their own to begin employment upon completion of the course. Students that successfully complete and obtain a certification are eligible for direct entry to the Millwright Union Apprenticeship through IKORCC.
Students must score a minimum of a 513 in Math and a minimum of 539 in Reading on the TABE assessment.
