Because it takes a variety of skills to teach our diverse students, program instructors must meet a variety of standards to join the Learning Team. They must be technically proficient (either through 1+ year experience as a professional in the topic area in which they are teaching, and/or through earning Eleven Fifty’s digital Badges and completing our trainee program; they must be pedagogically proficient in the Eleven Fifty Academy Curriculum (either by shadow teaching and/or completing our trainee program); and they must have up to date certifications where applicable (such as CompTIA Security+). We use a team-teaching approach to make sure that each learner has the opportunity to learn in the way they learn best. Note, high standards are maintained by both qualitative and quantitative reviews. Bi-weekly student surveys allow students to express direct feedback, but also allow for comparisons across cohorts to surface any concerns about instructional quality of which students may not be aware. At Eleven Fifty Academy, we recognize the best technicians don’t always make the best teachers. We recruit from a diverse pool of applicants to find instructors who are technically proficient, and empathetic, great communicators, patient, and focused on genuine lifelong learning. Many on the instructional team are full time employees in their technical field and teach at Eleven Fifty Academy part-time to bring their daily, real-world experience into the classroom.
