This veterinary assistant program is a training program designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the Veterinary Applications Certification through Elanco and work as a veterinary assistant. The curriculum covers a wide range of topics related to animal care, veterinary medicine, and clinical procedures including: Animal anatomy and physiology - Students learn about the strucure and function of different animal body systems to understand how they relate to health and disease. Veterinary Terminology - This course introduces students to the vocabulary and terminolgy used in veterinary medicine, allowing them to effectively communicate with veterinary professionals and clients. Animal behavior and handling - Students learn how to safely restrain animals, understanding their behavior and stress responses. Proper animal handling techniques are crucial for maintaining the safety and well being of both the animals and the veterinary staff. Animal nursing and care - This course focuses on the principles of animal nurisng and general care, including topics like nutrition, grooming, sanitation, and first aid. Veterinary office procedures - Students learn about the administrative aspects of working in a veterinary clicic, such as appointment scheduling, medical recordkeeping, and client communication. Laboratory procedures - This course covers basic laboratory techniques, including sample collection, diagnostic tests, and handling of laboratory equipment. Pharmacology and medication administration - Students gain an understanding of common medications used in veterinary medicine and learn proper techniques for administering medication to animals. In addition to the above classroom instruction, students are also provided with guest speakers who are professionals working in the veterinary field as well as mental health that surrounds the veterinary field.
Students must have a computer with audio and visual capabilities and home internet service.
The program is offered 5 times a year for an 8 week duration.
